The Seeds of Doom

Premise: An alien pod has been found and the Doctor rushes to investigate. It is one of a pair from a Krynoid, a deadly plant creature that infects and absorbs all animal life...

Notes: Athelhampton House in Dorset stood in for Chase's mansion while BCC Television Centre doubled as the exterior to the World Ecology Bureau building. These were once again shot on OB video instead of film. The Krynoid in it's early stages was in fact an Axon costume sprayed green. This was the last story to be directed by Douglas Camfield who had enjoyed a long involvement with the show, being the production assistant on the first broadcast episode, An Unearthly Child.

Verdict: Truly terrifying in a way that no other Doctor Who story has been, it successfully manages to avoid any James Bond clichés despite obviously taking some inspired from it. Tony Beckley is wonderful as Chase, as is John Challis as Scorby. Unfortunately, the story does begin to get repetitive towards the middle 9/10
