The Talons of Weng-Chiang

Premise: The TARDIS arrives on a dark, foggy night in Victorian London where the Doctor and Leela are attacked by members of the Tong who follow the ‘god’ Weng-Chiang.

Notes: This is the only one of his stories in which Tom Baker does not wear his iconic scarf, instead sporting clothes which resemble that of Sherlock Holmes. At one point he even says "...elementary my dear Litefoot". The giant rat sequences were achieved by either a real rat in a model sewer set or a costume with a man inside of it. On the day after the last part was shown, a program was shown on BBC2 called Whose Doctor Who which detailed the production of the serial and was part of the arts series, The Lively Arts.

Verdict: A great homage to Sherlock Holmes and an effortless conquering of the concept of pseudo-historicals. With the giant rat hidden away by the shadows, there's barely a flaw in sight. There's also an abundance of gruesome and horror-filled moments 10/10
