Premise: Recovering from his regeneration, the Doctor speculates the robbery of top secret plans and equipment from high security establishments was carried out by something not human.
Notes: Tom Baker was recommended to outgoing producer Barry Letts by BBC's head of drama serials, Bill Sellars. For the first time, all the location scenes were recorded on video as opposed to being shot on film as they had been before. This was so that it would be easier to add special effects on to the location scenes. A new title sequence was designed, made in a similar style to that of the previous season. This was the final serial to be produced by Barry Letts, who would be replaced by Philip Hinchcliffe as of the next serial. Robert Holmes had already taken over Terrance Dicks as script editor at this point, with Dicks instead writing the Fourth Doctor's debut story.
Verdict: A brilliant debut for Tom Baker, spoiled by poor visuals and a slightly tedious final part. You feel sorry for the robot in more ways than one and Hilda Winters, arguably one of the best female villains we've ever had, seems to loose all sanity towards the end of part three and practically disappears half way through part four 7/10
